Sculptra, Radiesse, and Perlane volume enhancers

Non-surgical procedures

Perlane is used to enlarge lips.  It is a hyaluronic acid gel that lasts about 3-6 months.

Sculptra consists of tiny beads of a biodegradable sugar (poly-L-lactic acid).  These beads stimulate the formation of new collagen.  2-4 initial treatments are usually performed, with about 3 weeks between each treatment.  After this initial series, the correction will be maintained for up to two years.  Sculptra is especially useful in the hollows of the cheeks and temples.

Radiesse is made of calcium-based microspheres that act as a scaffold under the skin to provide structure and to stimulate formation of new collagen.  It is especially useful to enchance the cheekbones and chin.  It may also elevate wrinkles and depressions near facial folds.  It lasts about one year.   It is best to have a plastic surgeon administer the medications, because the volumizers require the ability to visualize the results in three dimensions, and to disperse the medications evenly.  Redness, bruising, and swelling at the injection sites may occur.  Usually, they resolve in a few days.  More rare side effects include unevenness, lumpiness, firmness, and infection.
